While spending a week in poverty-stricken Nicaragua, what surprised Vic Rinke most was the determination of its residents not to be brought down by their circumstances.

When Rinke and three others from Lamb of God Church in Estero brought water filters to the residents and offered demonstrations on how to make a stove and oven, they responded with an eagerness to improve their lives.

“Their desire for learning just came out everywhere,” Rinke said.
