Haiti continues to suffer

Everyone is aware of the devastating earthquake that ravaged Haiti and the Port-au-Prince area. Our good friends, the Sisters of Holy Cross live in Haiti and do much good work for the local people. They have been sending regular updates.

As the news reports have faded and the focus shifts to other world events, the people of Haiti continue to suffer. Sr. Maureen has sent the following letter that keeps us reminded of our neighbors desperate plight:

Thank you so much for your generosity. We have been so blessed by so many people. Thank goodness we will be able to give some kind of assistance to these devastated people. They are still living in fear of “beton” which means they will not sleep in place where there is a cement roof. It is understandable because in 35 seconds nearly ½ million persons were killed. The numbers put out by the Government are partial because they counted only the ones they buried but thousands were buried in back yards, or taken up to the mountain.

We are desperately waiting for the shipment of tents to come in. I miss very much the little ones in our yard, I loved to play with them. I used to sneak them candies, they loved that.
