While Mission 35 was in Nicaragua in February 2010, the medical team, headed by Dr. Roger Patnode, visited the clinic at La Chureca. While there they, performed lead testing on the children that live in La Chureca, HIV testing and gynecological checkups. A group of pre-med students were visiting with Dr. Clara Gonzalez, Director of Medical Education. The students, are shown below along with Drs. Patnode and Gonzalez.
The students attend 5 years of schooling, then serve 1 year performing social services before they can receive their MD license. All 3 said that once they become doctors, they want to remain in the country to help their fellow Nicaraguans.
