Mission 75 Day 3 news:
We started day three with the sound of thunder and forecasted rain. While we did see some rain early, by the time the crews hit the road to the three sites, the rain had stopped, and the rest of the day was dry. This was extremely good news for the Blue crew, who had a day of outdoor projects awaiting them.
Linda was our host/cook for the evening. She is a wonderful and upbeat woman. Her love of God and neighbor is evident in everything she does, from her stories to serving our meals and helping clean up. She is an absolute blessing.
At our evening meeting, each team expressed very similar observations for their day.
Issac talked about how he saw the level of teamwork grow from yesterday to today. Everyone better understood what needed to be done and found how best they could help accomplish the task at hand. David, Joe, Doug, and Rob all echoed that they had seen similar levels of commitment and teamwork on their site.
The second common theme concerned each site's CAP leader. Each site leader was described as patient, competent, and dedicated to the site they had been assigned and the people they were serving. The dedication and compassion seen in each of the site leaders are reflected in our work crews and have created a tight-knit community.
Some memorable moments that we brought up were.
The Brown team was treated to lunch by the sister of the man whose home they were working on. The group also had the chance to meet the homeowner and spend some one-on-one time, which allowed them to get to know each other.
The Blue team got to spend time with Lilly, the seven-year-old girl for whom they were building a bedroom. She was fun and energetic. They also got to meet Miranda, the mother of the home. She expressed her happiness and thanks for everything she had done for her family.
Larry expressed gratitude for a conversation he had with Judy. Judy noted that the work being done touches so many more people than just the family whose house is being fixed up. She reminded us all that these people have family and loved ones who carry a heavy burden of worry and fear when a loved one is having a difficult time and living in unsafe conditions. The service provided to the patron also touches each one of them in a significant and healing way.
Dave added a quote from Fr. , CAP founder: "The answer is family."
We all left with an assignment: find a restaurant for our night out tomorrow. Stay tuned tomorrow for that news and more.
